A Weekend Getaway to Colico in Autumn and Winter
We suggest a suggestive itinerary for a weekend among the sights of Colico
Colico is very popular with tourists in the summer season: water sports, boat trips and walks along the lakefront are a must!
But did you know that even in autumn and winter it offers colours, views and treks that will leave you speechless?
Have we intrigued you?
Read on to find out what we have in store for you for an autumn weekend discovering Colico.
DAY ONE:
We begin our adventure gently with breakfast in a nice café-patisserie in the town centre. Then we head towards Piona Abbey, which can also be reached on foot for trekking enthusiasts, following CAI trail 7. Once we arrive at our destination, we will be welcomed by the Cistercian monks who keep the tradition of this magical place alive. The Abbey is open every day and offers the opportunity to purchase handmade products in the small shop at the gates of the Priory. You can also visit the cloister, which houses the Cippo di Agrippino, a landmark of the entire monastic complex.
For lunch, we can visit one of the nearby restaurants to sample typical local products. Returning to the town centre, in Piazza Garibaldi, we admire the summit of Monte Legnone and set off for a walk along the lakefront. From here, we can enjoy a unique sunset, accompanied by a hot chocolate or an aperitif at the bar.
DAY TWO:
For a day immersed in nature, after a hearty breakfast, we suggest an easy route that climbs from Acqua alla Fevra to the Rusico mountains, where you will find a charming plateau with numerous mountain huts and a small fountain. We then descend towards the village of Fontanedo, passing by the church of Sant’Elena, to the imposing medieval tower that dominates the entire Colico plain. Stop here for a photo opportunity with a breathtaking view. From here, we reach the picnic area, the starting point of our walk, where you can rest and eat your packed lunch, or choose to go to one of the nearby restaurants.
Back in the town centre, we will enjoy the rest of the afternoon strolling along the main street, browsing the various shops. What could be better than ending our weekend with an aperitif on the lakefront and a delicious dinner?
