Travel on the Bernina Line
An unmissable day trip through the local mountains.
The Bernina Line is a railway line that connects the city of Tirano, in Valtellina, to St. Moritz, Switzerland. Operating for over a century, this railway line is highly appreciated by tourists for its breathtaking views and evocative panoramas, which can be admired directly from the train.
History
The railway line was conceived as early as 1800 but was only built in the following century.
It was necessary due to the constant exchange of goods between the valleys, and when it was finally completed, it was a turning point for the locals. Since 1979, the Bernina Railway has been twinned with the Japanese “Hakone Tozan Railway,” and since 2008, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
